Protect the George Washington National Forest
-
Our forests need YOU to participate in the U.S. Forest Service's March public meetings for the George Washington National Forest. The plans made now will determine the level of protection for our National Forest for years to come. Your voice is needed!
This year the Forest Service is revising its management plan for the George Washington National Forest, under new rules that exempt them from the rigors of an Environmental Impact Statement. This could adversely affect:
Take Action:
Contact the Forest Service! Speak up for a plan that will better protect our National Forest (see email and mailing addresses below):
- Visit the Forest Service website for info on the plan revision: http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/gwj/forestplan/revision/index.shtml
- Submit comments to the Forest Service telling them to produce a plan that will focus on protecting clean water, diverse wildlife habitat, old-growth forests and remote, wild areas, as well as prime recreation spots. For guidance, refer to A Citizens Vision For the George Washington National Forest. Summary Brochure (PDF, 693KB).
- Demand greater opportunity for public involvement.
