In the first event of the series, a conservative and a liberal theologian will discuss the stewardship all Christians have in caring for the environment.
The Rev. Dr. Richard Cizik, Vice President for Governmental Affairs of the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE), speaks for over 30,000 conservative Christians. He is nationally known for his TV and radio programs, edits multiple NAE publications and sets NAE policy direction on issues before the three branches of the US government. Governor Kaine recently appointed Rev. Cizik to the VA Commission on Climate Change.
The Rev. Pat Watkins, an ordained elder in the Virginia Conference of United Methodist Churches, has served churches in the Lynchburg area and was a missionary in Nigeria with the United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries. Currently, Rev. Watkins is under appointment to the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy as the Environmental Policy Coordinator. He was recently named Staff Director of the VA Interfaith Power & Light.
Roy Hoagland, Esq., Vice President for Environmental Protection and Restoration for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, will moderate the event.
A discussion period with questions from the audience will be followed by a coffee fellowship.
