Right now Dominion is pushing through a new coal fired power plant in Wise County, VA and a new transmission in northern Virginia. The power plant would add millions of tons of global warming pollution to the atmosphere every year. The power line (coal by wire) would facilitate the sale of dirty coal-fired power from this plant and other existing plants to the mid-Atlantic and Northeast. Both projects would increase the demand for coal, expanding ongoing mountaintop removal coal mining that is leveling mountains and destroying communities throughout Appalachia.

Permits for both projects are before the Virginia State Corporation Commission with public hearings slated for early January. That is where you come in. Please join other citizens committed to doing something about global warming by coming to Richmond for a public hearing on January 8 at 9:30 AM to demonstrate your support for smart energy solutions—not short term corporate profits to make a few over paid Dominion Executives look good for a few financial quarters while our climate unravels.
