Ernie was born in Jamaica, New York, educated New York City public schools, B.S. Queens College, Flushing, N.Y., major: biology; M.S. Univ. of Maryland, major, Botany; Ph.D. Univ. of Florida, major, Plant Science. Professor of Life Sciences, Virginia State University 1968- 1999, authored about a dozen research papers on plant science, taught General Botany for 25 years and General Biology for 31 years, General Microbiology for six years. He has led countless field trips for SUUSI, SWIM, local Sierra club, Virginia Native Plant Society and other groups.
